Drug Uses
Zyloprim is a medicine which reduces the production of uric acid. It is used in the treatment of gout, increased levels of uric acid caused by cancer treatment, and kidney stones that are caused by high levels of uric acid.
How Taken
Zyloprim is in the form of a tablet and should be taken orally. It is commonly taken once every day after a meal. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water or other fluids every day during the treatment with Zyloprim. It is recommended that you do not consume a lot of fruit juices and vitamin C while using this drug because increased levels of vitamin C may cause development of kidney stones.
Warnings/Precautions
Consult your doctor before taking Zyloprim if you have kidney or liver disease. If you suffer from any of these diseases, your dose may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored regularly during the treatment. Do not take Zyloprim during pregnancy because it may be harmful to an unborn baby as it falls into the FDA pregnancy category C. Talk to your doctor before using Zyloprim if you are pregnant or may become pregnant during the usage of the drug. Also, consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding because Zyloprim can pass into breast milk and can affect the baby.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take double doses of Zyloprim.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor immediately or search for medical help and stop taking Zyloprim in you develop any of these side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); blood in your urine or pain when you urinate; a rash; eye irritation; fever, chills, or joint aches; or severe nausea or vomiting. If you have any of the following less serious side effects, continue using Zyloprim but inform your doctor: upset stomach or diarrhea; headache, dizziness, or drowsiness; or an acute attack of gouty arthritis. Other different side effects that are not listed here may also occur. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.
Storage
Keep Zyloprim at a temperature of 15-25°C (59-77°F), away from moisture and light.
Overdose
The symptoms of an overdose of Zyloprim are not known. Search for medical help if you suspect an overdose.
More Information
Be very cautious and alert when driving, operating machines or performing other dangerous activities. Zyloprim may cause dizziness or drowsiness, and if you experience these effects, avoid performing the above-mentioned activities. Avoid consuming alcohol because it may worsen your medical condition. Follow a diet recommended by your doctor.
