Zyban is a medicine used to assist discontinuation of smoking.
How Taken
Zyban is in the form of a tablet and should be taken orally twice a day, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow them whole.
Warnings/Precautions
Do not use Zyban if you are currently taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor or if you have taken such within the last 14 days. Zyban falls into the FDA pregnancy category B which means it is not expected to harm a fetus. Consult your doctor before taking Zyban if you are pregnant. Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose. Increased amount of the medicine enhances the risk of a seizure.
Possible Side Effects
Zyban may sometimes cause hypertension, especially if it is used in combination with some other nicotine replacement treatment. Among the most frequent side effects are dry mouth and difficulty sleeping. To avoid the last one, do not take the medicine before you go to bed. Other side effects may be shakiness and skin rash. Contact your doctor immediately and stop taking Zyban if you develop an allergic reaction manifested by rash, hives, or difficulty in breathing. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience a skin rash, hives, fever, swollen lymph glands, painful sores in the mouth or around the eyes, or swelling of lips or tongue because these symptoms may indicate a serious reaction.
Storage
Zyban should be stored at a room temperature, away direct sunlight. Keep the medicine in a tightly closed container. Keep away from children.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose of Zyban, immediately search for medical help. An overdose may be signaled by seizures, hallucinations, loss of consciousness, weakness, a fast heartbeat, and heart attack.

Do not consume alcohol or limit its consummation during treatment with Zyban because alcohol may enhance the risk of a seizure. This risk is also increased if you stop drinking abruptly. Be very cautious and alert when driving, operating machines or performing other dangerous activities. Consult your doctor about consummation of alcohol before taking the medicine. Zyban may cause dizziness or drowsiness, and if you experience these effects, avoid performing the above-mentioned activities.
