Drug Uses

Zanaflex is a medicine used to relax some muscles of the body. It is used to relieve the spasms and enhanced muscle tone that may be caused by various medical conditions including multiple sclerosis and spinal injury. Zanaflex is also used for other conditions. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about this issue.

How Taken

Zanaflex is in the form of a tablet that should be taken orally twice or three times a day. You should follow the directions and ask your doctor if you have any questions. Take the medicine exactly as instructed; do not take more or less pills, and do not take it more often than your doctor advised you.

Warnings/Precautions

Consult your doctor before taking Zanaflex in case you have liver disease, have kidney disease, have low blood pressure or you are on medication to treat high blood pressure; or you are using contraceptives. If you suffer from any of these diseases, you may not be able to use Zanaflex or your dose may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored regularly during the treatment. Inform your doctor in case you are pregnant. Zanaflex falls into the FDA pregnancy category C and it is not know if the medicine is harmful to a fetus. Also, consult your doctor if you are breast feeding because it is not clear if Zanaflex passes into breast milk. r doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Missed Dose

If you take several doses of Zanaflex each day, take the missed pill as soon as you remember and continue taking the rest of the daily doses at equal intervals. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose of Zanaflex.

Possible Side Effects

Zanaflex may cause side effects. Inform your doctor if the following symptoms worsen or do not disappear: dizziness, upset stomach, vomiting, tingling sensation in the arms, legs, hands, and feet, dry mouth, increased muscle spasms. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur: yellowing of the skin or eyes, unexplained flu-like symptoms.

Storage

Zanaflex should be stored in its original container, at a room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep it away from children. Throw away the medicine if it is outdated or you do not use it anymore.

Overdose

If you suspect an overdose, immediately search for medical help. The symptoms of an overdose of Zanaflex are not well known but among them are unconsciousness and irregular breathing.

More Information

Be very cautious and alert when driving, operating machines or performing other dangerous activities. Zanaflex may cause dizziness or drowsiness, and if you experience these effects, avoid performing the above-mentioned activities. Dizziness may also occur when you change your position from sitting or lying into rising. You can prevent the dizziness if you rise slowly. Be cautious when using alcohol, sleep or anxiety medicine because they all may enhance the drowsiness and dizziness caused by Zanaflex.
