Drug Uses
Sumycin is a drug used for treatment or prevention of infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
How Taken
The common dosage is 1-2 g a day. Your dosage may be increased if the infection is severe. Do not stop using the medicine even if you feel well. The treatment should continue for at least 24 to 48 hours after the symptoms fade away.
Warnings/Precautions
Inform your doctor in case you are hypersensitive to tetracyclines. If Sumycin is used without a proven or strongly suspected infection, the treatment most probably will not be efficient but the risk to develop drug-resistant bacteria is enhanced.
Missed Dose
If you miss doses or do not complete the course of the therapy the effectiveness of the treatment may be reduced. It is also possible the bacteria to develop resistance and to not be treatable by Sumycin or other medicines.
Possible Side Effects
The side effects cause by Sumycin may be the following: anorexia, epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bulky loose stools, stomatitis, sore throat, glossitis, black hairy tongue, dysphagia, hoarseness, enterocolitis, and inflammatory lesions (with candidal overgrowth) in the anogenital region.
Storage
Sumycin should be stored at a room temperature, away from heat. Keep it in a tightly closed container and away from children.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, immediately search for medical help.
More Information
If your treatment lasts for a long period of time, you need regular laboratory evaluation of the renal, hepatic and hematopoietic systems.
