Drug Uses
Retin-A is a product used to improve the skin appearance and texture. It affects the superficial and deep parts of the skin and stimulate superficial feel of the epidermis. Retin-A also reduces the aging of the skin cause by sunlight.
How Taken
A thin layer of the medicine is applied on the affected skin once a day. You should wash your hands immediately after usage. More frequent usage of Retin-A or increased dosage will not lead the effects of the treatment but may enhance the side effects. Acne may appear during the first days of the treatment but you should not discontinue using the medicine. About three to six weeks may be needed to get the desired results. Keep Retin-A away from the eyes, mouth or cuts. Wash your face with mild soap. Be cautious when using other product for acne in combination with Retin-A.
Warnings/Precautions
Renova may enhance the sensitivity to sunlight, wind and cold. Avoid sun light and sunlamps. Use protection when you go out. Use the medicine only if it is need in case you are pregnant. Consult your doctor before taking Retin-A if you are breast feeding because it is not clear if the medicine passes into breast milk. Wash your face with mild soap. Be cautious when using other product for acne in combination with Retin-A.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects
It is recommended that you begin the treatment of a small area of the skin because the medicine may cause irritation. The irritation may be enhanced by exposure to sun or ultraviolet rays. Avoid sun light during the treatment. Your medical problem may worsen during the first few week of the therapy but this reaction is absolutely normally because small cysts deep in the skin are being eliminated quickly. Retin-A may enhance the sensitivity to wind and cold. Longer exposure to sun and sunlamps should be avoided. Use protection if necessary. Stop using the medicine if any of its ingredients causes hypersensitivity.
Storage
Retin-A is stored at a room temperature, away from sunlight. Keep it away from children.
Overdose
Excessive or more frequent usage of Retin-A will not lead to faster results but may cause redness, peeling and discomfort. An overdose with other retinoid may cause transient headache, facial flushing, celosias, abdominal pain, dizziness and ataxia.
More Information
You should wait your skin rash to clear up in case you have been treated with keratolytic preparations or exfoliants. Studies have shown that the efficiency of Renova is not complete in pregnant women so they should use it only if it is absolutely needed. The efficiency of Retin-A is almost always combined with skin irritation. This is also true about the treatment of acne. You can use cosmetics but the skin must be clean before you apply the medicine.
