Prilosec - Treat Stomach and Esophagus Problems
Prilosec is commonly prescribed for conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. These conditions can include things such as GERD, duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, and H. pylori infections. Drug Uses

If you suffer from persistent heartburn (and have tried to treat it and changed your diet) Prilosec may be the right solution of your problems.. Prilosec (Omeprazole) is a medicine used for the treatment of various acid-related stomachs and/ or throat (esophagus) problems (e.g. GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome). This medicine may be prescribed together with some antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin).

How Taken

Prilosec is in the form of long-lasting tablets of 20 mg, which should be taken once a day for a period of 14 days. Take the tablets before a meal, do not crush or chew them but swallow them whole. Do not take Prilosec for more than 14 days and do not repeat the treatment within a period of 4 moths, unless your doctor directed so.

Warnings/Precautions

Consult your doctor before taking Prilosec if you suffer from liver problems, other stomach problems (e.g. tumors), and any allergies. If you are pregnant, use the medicine only if it is really needed and talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of its usage. Consult your doctor if you are breat feeding because it is not known if Prilosec passes into breast milk.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose.

Possible Side Effects

The treatment with Prilosec may cause diarrhea, constipation, stomachache, nausea, gas, loss of appetite, headache, or dizziness tduring he first days as your body adjusts to the medication. Talk to your doctor if these side effects worsen or if they bother you. It is very unlikely to happen, bun inform your doctor in case you develop back or joint pain, nervousness, sleep disturbances, cough, chest pain, unusual thirst, change in amount of urine or vision changes. Very rare side effects include loss of hair, ringing in the ears, swelling of the stomach or fatigue. If you experience an allergic reaction to this drug, immediately search for medical help. an allergic reaction may be signaled by rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.

Storage

Keep Prilosec at a room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C), away from light and moisture.

Overdose

If you suspect an overdose, immediately search for medical help. Symptoms of overdose may be the following: confusion, unusual sweating, blurred vision, unusually fast heartbeat, seizures.

You should not take Prilosec in case you:
-have only occasional heartburn
-have one episode of heartburn a week or less
-want immediate relief of heartburn.
Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are using. Do not start or stop taking Prilosec before a consultation with your doctor or pharmacist.
