Drug Uses
Naprosyn is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, juvenile arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendonitis and bursitis, and acute gout. It is also used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to treat primary dysmenorreah.
How Taken
Naprosyn may be in the form of a tablet, a tablet with extended release or liquid. This medicine should be taken orally. The common dosage is twice a day for treatment of arthritis, an extended-release tablet every 8 hours for treatment of gout and a regular tablet every 6-8 hours for pain. Take Naprosyn with food or milk to avoid stomach problems.
Warnings/Precautions
Inform your doctor before taking Naprosyn if you have an allergy to aspirin or any other NSAIDs, have an ulcer or bleeding in your stomach, drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day, have liver disease, have kidney disease, have a coagulation (bleeding) disorder, have congestive heart failure, have fluid retention, have heart disease, or have high blood pressure. If you suffer from any of these diseases, you may not be able to use Naprosyn or your dose may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored regularly during the treatment. Naprosyn falls into the FDA pregnancy category B which means it is not expected to harm a fetus. However, the medicine should not be used during the last three months of the pregnancy because it may affect the heart of the fetus. Consult your doctor before taking Naprosyn if you are pregnant or if you are breast feeding because the medicine passes into breast milk and may affect the baby.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor if you have blood in vomit or bloody, black, or tarry stools because these symptoms may indicate damage of the stomach or intestines. Contact your doctor immediately and stop taking Naprosyn if you develop any of these side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling; ulcers (open sores) in the mouth; rapid weight gain (fluid retention); seizures; decreased hearing or ringing in the ears; yellowing of your skin or eyes (jaundice); or abdominal cramping, heartburn, or indigestion. If you have any of the following less serious side effects, continue using Naprosyn but inform your doctor: dizziness or headache; nausea, diarrhea, or constipation; depression; fatigue or weakness; dry mouth; or irregular menstrual periods. Other different side effects that are not listed here may also occur. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.
Storage
Naprosyn suspension should be stored at a room temperature, away from excessive heat above 40�C (104�F). Keep it in a light-resistant container. Naprosyn tablets should be stored at a room temperature and in a tightly closed and light resistant container.
Overdose
An overdose of Naprosyn may be indicated by drowsiness, heartburn, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, seizures. If you suspect an overdose, immediately search for medical help.

You should avoid longer exposure to sunlight because Naprosyn may enhance the sensitivity of the skin. It is recommended that you use sunscreen and protective clothing. Do not consume alcohol or limit its usage. Alcohol increases the risk of stomach bleeding. Be cautious when you drive, operate machinery or perform any other dangerous activities. Naprosyn may cause dizziness. Avoid the above-mentioned activities if you experience dizziness. Consult your doctor before taking any other medicines, especially drugs that contain aspirin.
