Mircette (Desogestrel Ethinyl Estradiol) - Next Day Med Store
Ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel contains a combination of female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). This medication also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Drug Uses

Mircette are birth control pills used to prevent from pregnancy.

How Taken

Oral birth control pills must be taken consistently in order to be effective. Mircette should be taken with or after a meal to avoid any stomach problems. It is recommended that you take the pills at the same time every day because in this way you will remember to take them regularly. The packages of birth control pills contain 21 or 28 tablets. If your period lasts 21 days, you should get a package of 21 pills and take a pill every day for 21 days. Then you should stop taking pills for 7 days and on the 8th day should continue with a new package. If your period lasts 28 days you should take a pill every day in the directed order. The last seven pills are in a different colour and you do not have to count how many pills you have already taken. They do not contain active ingredients but iron or other inactive substances and are used to ensure continuous daily dosing during the whole cycle of 28 days. It is recommended to use a second contraceptive method in the beginning to ensure that you will not become pregnant. Read the instructions on the package carefully and follow them strictly. Take the first pill exactly on the noted day - on the first or the fifth day of your menstruation, on the first Sunday of or after the bleeding begins. Do not take more or less pills if your doctor hasn't instructed you to do so. Consult your doctor before you stop taking the pills.

Warnings/Precautions

Consult your doctor before taking Mircette if you have high blood pressure, angina, or heart disease; had a stroke; a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder; breast, uterine, or another hormone-related cancer; liver disease or a history of jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) caused by use of birth control in the past; undiagnosed, abnormal vaginal bleeding; migraines; asthma; or seizures or epilepsy. If you suffer from any of these diseases, you may not be able to use Mircette or your dose may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored regularly during the treatment. Birth control pills fall into the FDA pregnancy category X which means they can cause serious defects to a fetus. Do not use birth control pills if you are pregnant. Consult your doctor before taking Mircette if you are breast feeding, because the hormones contained by the pills may pass into breast milk or may reduce its production.

In case you miss 1 active pill (in white colour):
1. Take the pill as soon as you remember and take the next one as scheduled. Thus you will take two pills on one day.
