Drug Uses
Denavir is a topical antiviral medicine used for treatment of recurrent cold sores (herpes labialis) on the lips and face in otherwise healthy adults. The medicine may also be used to treat other conditions that are not listed here.
How Taken
Denavir is applied on the cold sore with a finger or cotton swab every two hours for a period of 4 days. It should be washed with water and soap. Avoid contact with the eyes.
Warnings/Precautions
Denavir is applied externally on the lips and the face. Do not apply the medicine on mucous membranes inside the mouth, nose, genital or rectal areas. Denavir falls into the FDA pregnancy category B which means the medicine is unlikely to harm a fetus. Consult your doctor before using Denavir if you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor before using the medicine in case you are breast feeding because it is not known if the medicine passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one.
Possible Side Effects
If you have any of the following less serious side effects, continue using Denavir but inform your doctor: headache; local numbness or tingling where the cream is applied; changes in taste; rash; irritation at the application site. Other different side effects that are not listed here may also occur. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.
Storage
Denavir should be kept at a controlled room temperature of 20�-25�C (68�-77�), away from moisture and heat.
Overdose
An overdose of Denavir is unlikely to be life threatening. If you have applied an excessive amount of the medicine, contact your doctor for an advice.
