Drug Uses
Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant that is used for the treatment of pain and stiffness of muscle injuries such as strains, sprains and muscle spasm. The medicine contains cyclobenzaprine.
How Taken
Cyclobenzaprine is in the form of a tablet of 10 mg and is taken orally. The common dose for adults is a tablet of 10 mg three times a day. Do not take more than 60 mg per day. Cyclobenzaprine may be taken with food to avoid stomach problems. Use the medicine exactly as directed; do not take more pills and do not take the drug more often than prescribed.
Warnings/Precautions
Cyclobenzaprine may not be suitable for all individuals. If you have had any of the following conditions in the past, or are being treated for them now, please inform your doctor. In some cases side effects may be minimized by following your doctor's advice, but you may be advised not to take Cyclobenzaprine.
Inform your doctor if you have had or currently have any of the following diseases: glaucoma, an overactive thyroid gland, heart disease, difficulty urinating or any allergies. Also, consult your doctor if you are breast feeding before taking Cyclobenzaprine.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects
Cyclobenzaprine may cause the following side effects: stomach upset, heartburn, constipation, headache, dizziness or drowsiness or dry mouth. They usually appear during the first few days of usage because the body adjusted to the medicine. In case these symptoms worsen or continue, talk to your doctor. Consult your doctor if you experience muscle stiffness, skin rash, itching, rapid heart rate, swelling of the face, difficulty urinating. Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur when you change your position from sitting or lying to rising. You should avoid activities that require caution if you experience dizziness. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.
Storage
Keep the medicine at a temperature of 25°C (77°F); fluctuations allowed to 15-30°C (59-86°F). Keep away from children.
Overdose
An overdose of Cyclobenzaprine may be signaled by the following symptoms: difficulty breathing, extreme nervousness or restlessness, flushed skin, hallucination, racing or irregular heartbeat, seizure, shortness of breath, tiredness (extreme), unstable temperature, unusual muscle stiffness, vomiting (in combination with these other symptoms). Immediately search for medical help if you experience any of them.
More Information
Cyclobenzaprine may be life-threatening if it interacts with MAO inhibitors. It may increase the effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other depressants.
