Drug Uses

Buspar is a medicine used for treatment of generalized anxiety disorder. It may also be used to treat other medical conditions. Buspar affects directly the chemicals in the brain. These chemicals cause anxiety when they are unbalanced.

How Taken

Buspar may be taken with food or milk if there are any stomach problems. You should take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor; do not take less or more pills. You will feel some results after 7 to 10 days of usage. The symptoms will disappear after 3 to 4 weeks.

Warnings/Precautions

Consult your doctor before taking Buspar if you have any of the following diseases: kidney disease, liver disease, drug allergies. Buspar may cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not consume a lot of alcohol as it may enhance the dizziness or drowsiness caused by the drug. Be cautious when performing activities that require full attention and alertness. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not clear if Buspar passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before taking the medicine if you are breast feeding.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next regular dose, skip the missed one and take only the scheduled dose. Do not take double doses of Buspar.

Possible Side Effects

The side effects of Buspar may include: drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, weakness, vivid dreams, sleeplessness, dry skin, blurred vision, altered sense of taste and smell, weight gain, muscle aches, ringing in the ears, nausea, and headaches. Call your doctor if these effects continue or get worse. Consult your doctor in case you have abnormal movements or "twitches" of the face or neck muscles, other involuntary movements or tremors, depression, confusion, incoordination, chest pain, breathing difficulties. Other different side effects that are not listed here may also occur. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.

Storage

Buspar should be kept in its original container, tightly closed and away from children. It should be kept at a room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Do not use the medicine if it is outdated.

Overdose

An overdose of Buspar may be signaled by the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, and decreased pupil size. In case you have taken an overdose or you suspect an overdose, immediately search for medical help.

More Information

Consult your doctor about all the drugs you may use during the treatment with Buspar and especially: other drugs for anxiety or depression, azole or macrolide antibiotics, haloperidol, narcotic pain medicines. Do not eat grapefruits or consume grapefruit juice while you are taking Buspar. Do not start or stop taking other medicines without a consultation with your doctor or pharmacist.
