Drug Uses
Antivert is an antihistamine drug which blocks the effects of chemical called histamine that occurs naturally in your body. The medicine is used for the treatment of nausea, vomiting, dizziness associated with motion sickness, and vertigo. Antivert may also be used for the treatment of other conditions that are not listed here.
How Taken
Antivert may be in the form of a chewable tablet or a capsule. If you use the drug for motion sickness, take the dose one hour before your travel starts. If necessary, the medicine may be taken every 24 hours. If you use Antivert for dizziness cause by an ear condition, you should strictly follow the instructions of your doctor. You should read the directions on the packing and follow them. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. Use Antivert exactly as directed; do not take less or more of the medicine. The chewable tablets may be swallowed of chewed.
Warnings/Precautions
Antivert may cause drowsiness. It is recommended that you do not drive, operate machines or perform any dangerous activities before you know how the medicine would affect you. It may interfere with other antidepressant drugs or alcohol. If you are breast feeding, consult your doctor about the possible risks for the baby because it is not clear if Antivert may pass into breast milk and harm the baby.
Missed Dose
Antivert is taken when needed and a missed dose should not be a problem. However, in case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take double dose.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor immediately and stop taking Antivert if you develop any of these side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). If you have any of the following less serious side effects, continue using Antivert but inform your doctor: drowsiness or dizziness; a dry mouth (may be relieved by sugarless gum, ice chips, saliva substitutes, or other products if bothersome); blurred vision; nervousness; insomnia; or constipation. Other different side effects that are not listed here may also occur. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.
Storage
Antivert should be kept in tightly-closed, light-resistant containers, at a controlled room temperature of 15�-30�C (59�-86� F).
Overdose
If you have taken an overdose of Antivert or suspect it, immediately search for medical help. An overdose may be signaled by the following symptoms: unusual excitability, drowsiness, hallucinations, very slow or shallow breathing, and seizures.
More Information
Antivert may enhance the drowsiness caused by other medicines such as antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), pain relievers, anxiety medicines, and muscle relaxants. Consult your doctor before taking Antivert and inform the doctor about all other medicines you are taking in the moment. Some patients have shown a hypersensitivity to Antivert in the past and may not be able to use it again. Discuss this issue with your doctor or pharmacist.
