Drug Uses
Aciphex is a medicine used to reduce the amount of acid produced in your stomach and for the treatment of ulcers, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn), and other conditions associated with increased amounts of acid in the stomach.
How Taken
Aciphex is in the form of delayed-release tablets and is taken orally. The dosage for adults is a tablet of 20 mg that is taken once a day for a period of 4-8 weeks. The tables should be taken with a full glass of water; they should not be broken, chewed or split.
Warnings/Precautions
Consult your doctor before taking Aciphex in case you take any of the following medicines: ketoconazole (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral). If you are using any of these drugs, you may not be able to use Aciphex or your dose may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored regularly during the treatment. Other medicines that are not listed here may also interact with Aciphex. Consult your doctor before taking any other drugs during the treatment with Aciphex.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose of Aciphex.
Possible Side Effects
Serious side effects caused by Aciphex are very rare and unlikely to occur. Contact your doctor immediately and stop taking Aciphex if you develop any of these side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives) If you have any of the following less serious side effects, continue using Aciphex but inform your doctor: headache; upset stomach or diarrhea; insomnia or nervousness; or a rash or itching. Other different side effects that are not listed here may also occur. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.
Storage
Aciphex should be stored at a room temperature and away from moisture. Keep the medicine away from children.
Overdose
The symptoms caused by an overdose of Aciphex are not known. If you suspect an overdose, immediately search for medical help.
More Information
There are no restrictions on food, drinks or performed activities during a treatment with Aciphex. You should not stop the usage of the drug even if you feel better because the symptoms of your conditions may improve and disappear before the end of the treatment.
